2008 Bald Eagle
What do ya think of these? I'll probably grab 1 or 2 proof's at the introductory offer of $39.95, just because. I got the US Mint flyer today and the coin looks pretty good.

Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
Bump. I was going to ask your opinions on this offering, too.
|
Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
I'm buying 2 proofs tomorrow morning for the introductory offer of 39.95.
I always like to buy two of anything, so if I like them, I can sell one and keep one. Good value? Who knows? |

Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
It doesn't tell you the content anywhere, does it?
And what does "Clad" mean? Plated? The silver is being offered at about 2.5 times the spot price..... so I don't know about this. |
Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
Check the website in the morning. I believe the gold bald eagle is a 22k 1/4 oz
I like the silver baldie |

Don't waste your time buying one. :thumpdown The bald eagle silver dollar looks really nice. |
Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
The $5 commemoratives are usually 1/4 ounce of gold. It is funny that the web site doesn't specify it anywhere that I can see.
The gold coin has a nice design but I like the silver dollar better. |
Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
I'm not promoting these as the next great investment but here are the specifics on them as they go on sale today.

Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
The $5 commemoratives all have the same specs as the old half eagles ($5). So, 22k (or is it .900 pure?), 0.24187 ounces of pure gold.
|
Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
Am I missing something or do these not say gold (or silver) on them? I know this might be silly, but I want my gold coins to be stamped saying "gold" or whatever.
|
Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
The Bald Eagle Commemorative Coins will be available in six individual coin options: a $5 gold coin, a silver dollar coin, and a half-dollar clad coin each available in proof and uncirculated versions. Also available will be a Three-Coin Proof Set, a Coin and Medal Set, and a Young Collector's Set. Additionally, later this year, the annual United States Mint American Legacy CollectionTM will feature a Bald Eagle Proof Silver Dollar.

Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
Typically the $5 gold coin is 1/10 of an ounce. Doubt they would change that weight for one coin.
Not a bargin in my book. |
Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
Just went to their website, and found the following:
"Because of a transition in service providers, the United States Mint online catalog is currently unavailable. We expect the online catalog to be back in service within the next couple of days. In the interim, our toll-free customer service number will continue to be available to our customers. To place an order, or to inquire about the status of an order, please call 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). Customer Service Representatives will be available to assist you from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight (ET), seven days a week. Hearing- and speech-impaired customers may place orders and inquiries through TTY at 1-888-321-MINT (6468), Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (ET). The Bald Eagle Commemorative Coin Program will be available for sale as scheduled, starting January 15, 2008, at 12:00 noon (ET). You may place orders via our toll-free numbers and through mail order. Information about the Bald Eagle Commemorative Coin product options and household limit information can be found in our press release in our online press room." Thinking about buying the three coin proof set, with one per household this may be worth it. |
Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
As turner-son said, $5 commemoratives all have the same composition and gold content as the old (pre-1933) gold coins, or .2418 oz, a little bit less than 1/4 ozt.
The silver commemorative dollars are the same composition and silver content as old Morgan and Peace dollars, which is .77xx ozt of 90% silver. |
Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
Would you guys please hang up the damn phone! I can't get through with you calling over and over.
|
Re: 2008 Bald Eagle

|
Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
Can't get through either. Wonder if their phone system is screwed as well?:sarcasm:
|
Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
Something seems fishy to me.....The website goes down at 11:45 and you can't get through on the phones either.??? I was just planning on picking up a couple of silver dollars for myself. I bet by the time I get through they will all be gone and the dealers will have them on Ebay for twice the price!!!
|
Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
I was able to get through by pushing number 2

Did they let you place an order on that line??? |
Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
Has anybody had any success with a purchase yet? I been trying for six hours to get through with no luck. Pressing two don't work. Pressing 0 gets you nowhere too.
I think it’s a scam. Our government at work. bf |
Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
No luck here. Been trying since 1pm.
|
Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
Do they take phone orders 24/7?
|
Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
I got mine by pressing 2, Yes they took the order.

I ordered mine on my lunch break today at about noon. It took me 25 minutes and at least 50 redials to get through. I've never said "one" so many times in such a short period. I ordered myself the 3 coin proof set. I can't wait to get these :) I don't really care if they end up selling at a higher premium or not. I just think they are really gorgeous coins. |
Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
Prime time TV started up on the right coast and I finally was able to get through. Got four proof silver Bald Eagles.
Woo-Woo!! BF |
Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
The gold coin looks nice, but a 1/4 ounce is just to small for me.
|
Re: 2008 Bald Eagle
Finally got through after 8 hours of calling. Those khacksukers kept me on hold for 45 minutes and then told me they were closed.:banghead:
